Term 4

Welcome to Term 4 in EYFS!

Please continue to ensure your children arrive at school with suitable clothing for the weather.

As always, please also ensure everything that comes to school is clearly named.

This term, as in term 3, the children will continue to explore guided learning with an adult during English and maths time. The children are enjoying this challenge in addition to their curiosity time where they are led by their own interests.

From this term we would like to introduce Show and Tell as it builds crucial communication skills ,confidence, and empathyWe are inviting the children to presenting a personal item such as a certificate, badge or something they have made at home that they are proud of, to their peers.  By doing this, children not only practice public speaking—such as voice projection and eye contact but listeners develop active listening, patience, and respectful interaction.

In order, for each child to be able to participate in this we have allocated the below days:-

Thursday– Curiosity (yellow) and Compassion (red)

Friday – Courage (green) and Challenge (blue)

In EYFS this term we will be learning about the past using the topic of ‘Time Machine’.

This will include learning about how our world has changed including the seasons.

Through our topic of the past we will be learning about dinosaurs, the moon landing as a big historical event, changes in technology, schools and seasides,  where we will  incorporate the whole school term theme of sustainability through exploring  single use plastics and how they changed our seasides.

This term we will be exploring a range of texts to support our learning.  These include ‘Clean Up’, ‘Whatever Next’ and ‘The Way Back Home’.

In maths, the children will be continuing their number and numerical pattern learning as well as examining 3D shapes.

We will be continuing with our phonics groups.  If your child brings home a Read, Write Inc book, they will have practiced this book throughout the week at school.  As it is a book that is familiar to them, they might be able to read it at home with increased fluency.

PE day for both classes TBC.

All children will continue to bring home a “sharing” book each week, for you to read with or to your child, as well as a Read, Write Inc. phonics book for them to read to you.

A phonics homework sheet will be sent out every Friday.

Reminders:-

Any messages or reading comments should be recorded in your child’s reading record please.  Your child’s “zippy wallet” will be used for any correspondence between home and school.
Reading records are taken in to be checked ready for book change on Friday.
Please ensure all books are returned on a Thursday

Please see the Learning Overview below for more information about the Term 4 curriculum.
