Term 4
Welcome to Term 4! We hope you are all well rested after the break and ready for another busy and exciting term!
We will begin the term with our trip to Chatham Dockyard, where we will be taking part in a range of activities linked to our topic about Explorers, as well as using our learning of science and P.S.H.E. in team building activities.
Our whole school theme for Term 4 is Sustainability, and we will be exploring this through different subject areas.
In English this term we will be reading the wonderful and heart-warming story, "Sona Sharma-Saving Planet Earth" by Chitra Soundar. The story follows a young girl, Sona, who is passionate about saving the Earth having been inspired by her teacher. Through this text we will be thinking about ways in which we too can help save the Earth, and we will be learning about persuasive writing and balanced arguments based on this theme.
In maths, we will begin the term by learning about money. We will be making amounts, finding and comparing totals and calculating change. We will then be moving on to multiplication and division, before focusing on measurements and interpreting data.
In geography, we will be looking at the human and physical features of Maidstone, and comparing them to the features of Chembakolli, a village in India. In science we will be applying our learning of materials and carrying out investigations based on their properties. PSHE will focus on the strong feelings of anger and worry, and what strategies we can use when we are feeling this way. Through R.E., we will learn about how we can care about others and our world, and why it is important to do so. We will be consolidating our programming skills in computing, as well as learning about digital literacy and how we can stay safe online.
In Term 4 we will be doing D.T. and will be baking bread! We will bake bread rolls following a recipe, carefully measuring out the ingredients. We will then evaluate them and think about how we could improve them, before making further bread rolls with these improvements.
P.E. this term will be on a Tuesday and a Wednesday. We will be focusing on tag rugby and gymnastics.
